Reler Editora has put at the disposal of the public a complete record of the Brazilian gemstone culture in the book "Pedras Brasileiras," published with the sponsorship of Icatu Hartford. Curated and with a preface by Francesca Romana, it presents an overview of the mining activity in Brazil in three chapters. Journalist Bertholodo Castro wrote the text. The first chapter is a history of the activity, amply illustrated using previously unpublished engravings discovered in the National Library, the National Archives and the National Historical Museum. The second presents a detailed description of 36 gemstones photographed by Mário Grisolli that portray their authenticity and beauty. This chapter is a contribution by Walter Leite, one of Brazil's top living gemologists. The third section closes the publication with a series of precious stories and information revealed in interviews and reports from prospectors and gemstone diggers and dealers.
